Double Breasted Bathrobes

There are different styles of bath robes which are available in the market that have developed over the years. The most popular style of bathrobes is a double breasted robe with a sash. This ties in the front and helps to keep the robe closed.

In the garment industry, double breasted generally refers to a coat or jacket having a wide overlap in the front with two parallel rows of buttons. The wide over lap puts extra layers of fabric on the opening to retain body heat.

When we talk about the double breasted coat, it has one column of buttons that are decorative while the other set is functional. The buttons that are placed on the outside edge of the coat breast are either decorative or functional, allowing reversible fastening of the lapels. This also holds true for the double breasted bath robe which are fastened by sashes or buttons.

The original double breasted jacket originated from the naval reefer jacket having six buttons, with three of them used for closing the lapels. The four-button double breasted jacket that buttons at the lowest button is called the Kent style robe after the man who made it popular – The Duke of Kent.
