Kimono robe is the quintessential symbol of Asian culture. It traces its origins to the Chinese civilization and was later adopted by nearly all the South-east Asian countries in different variants.
The kimono is a wrap around garment with one of the two front portions over lapping each other. These robes are made mainly with a raglan style of sleeve. This type of robe offers more room in the shoulder area and has a looser fit. It is tied at the waist with two sashes which are attached in the insides of the robe.
With the passing of time, the kimono robe underwent great changes in terms of use and shape. Nowadays it is also used as a dressing gown. Bath robes are also at times called dressing gowns which are worn after taking a bath or having had a swim in the pool. It is generally worn at home these days in privacy, over the night clothes or at times without any garments beneath.
Kimonos are used as bath robes by not only the women but also the men. They wear it over their pajamas. In Japan, the Yukata or a type of cotton kimono is worn outdoors in summer as well as a bath robe. In today’s world, there are different bathrobes available depending upon the weave and fabric. But kimono style bath robes look especially good in silk, satin, cotton, wool and polyester. Kimono style cotton bathrobes are more popular in hot weather as it breathes very well. |
