Terry cloth is one of the most commonly used fabrics for bathrobes. It is a type of pile fabric that is woven from cotton. It has uncut loops on both sides of the garment and it is considered that denser the loops are, the spongier and softer the robe is.
Terry fabric can be produced through weaving or knitting but for commercial purposes weaving is much more preferred. Commonly cotton is the fabric which forms the base material for terry cloth since it is highly absorbent and easy to work with. But there can also be variations using bamboo or linen along with artificial fibers which have been specifically designed for higher absorbency.
The fiber which is used for producing the garment also determines the level of softness and also the color which can be adjusted with dyes. Terry cloth can also be patterned by printing or using multi-colored thread and can also be decorated by using embroidery prints on it.
